Topic for Capstone

Topic for Capstone

  • I'm working towards a career in psychology, with an emphasis in neuroscience, mental disorders, and forensic psychology.
  • My project dealt with the lack of synchronicity between the law and psychology, specifically in cases dealing with persons that may or may not be mentally disturbed. The central problem is that the law and psychology ask different questions and desire different answers. Forensic psychology is supposed to be the bridge and application of psychology and the law. However, issues arise when the testimonies of psychologists or the assets of psychology are either used incorrectly or dismissed. One example is the usage of the DSM brought in as evidence during court cases. The DSM clearly states it is not intended for legal use, but is used anyways. Another example is that some cases allow expert witness testimonies and either take them to be the whole entire truth or completely dismiss them from a case. I planned for my end product to perhaps be an outline or description of another version of the DSM exclusively for forensic psychology and the law or a draft or outline of legislature that would discuss appropriate usage of psychology in the courtroom.
  •  My project was rejected and I'm not sure what I am going to do now. I hope to simply hone and adjust my previous project as I already have research concerning these issues and have discussed them with a mentor.

Capstone poster

Subject and Design

My poster is most likely going to be serious with dark tones, such as blues, greens, greys, blacks. I may end up using some dark reds, but probably not. My subject is serious and clinical/professional so my design will hopefully be able to reflect that. In the same manner, the font and design will be professional. I haven't considered imagery or size yet as I'm still unsure about the Capstone project in general and with my subject there aren't too many pictures I can use that would aid in the desirability of the project.  I am also unsure about size.

5 Things For A Poster

Five Things A Poster Should Do For You

  • Catch Your Attention
    • Bright colors, pictures, etc.
  • Inform You
    • If a poster doesn't have the necessary information but a bunch of dirge, then it's not doing its job.
  • Easy-to-follow Layout
    • Posts and information should be in a logical order and broken into sections so it is easy to follow.
  • Easy to Read
    •  The font size and type should aid rather than hinder a potential reader.
  • Graphics
    • Pictures or design or something needs to be there to add "pizazz" and keep people interested. However, they should be relevant to the topic of the poster. Otherwise, that's just plain confusing.
